The 2008 Stanley Museum Auction to benefit the Stanley Museum of Kingfield Maine & Estes Park Colorado drew interest from all parts of the United States from as far away as California.
Over 375 items were offered at the live auction conducted on Friday, August 22, 2008 at Lincoln Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Online bidding was available for the first time at the Steam Car Auction and over 30 online bidders competed using real live time bidding against the on-site bidders at the university. The auction raised over $280,000.
Highlights included a 1922 Stanley Model 735B 7-Passenger Touring car which sold for $82,500, a 1923 Stanley 740G 5-Passenger Sedan which sold for $55,000, and a 1920 Stanley Model 735A Short-Coupled 4-Passenger Phaeton which sold for $55,000.
The auction is part of a weekend event which included a 2-day Steam Car Seminar, Evening Reception with Keynote Speaker Sarah Stanley, Outdoor BBQ and tour of the Kingfield Museum w/ Steam Train Excursion and a Deluxe Lobster Bake on Mooselookmeguntic lake with a concert by Stanley & Grimm performed on original Stanley violins.
